Apple Wants You To Know The iPad Mini is Just Like The Bigger iPad [VIDEOS]

The iPad Mini is just like the iPad, got it? There's really no difference. OK, maybe except for the size. And the lack of a Retina screen. But that's it!

That's the not-so-subtle message behind these two new iPad Mini ads from longtime agency TBWA\Media Arts Lab. The top features the swing tune "Two of a Kind" performed by Bobby Darin and Johnny Mercer and shows the bigger and smaller iPads next to each other as a user searches photos. The ad at bottom similarly displays the iPad Mini's ability to act as an e-reader.

While we'll never know the famously tight-lipped Apple's motivation for running the spots, it appears that market research revealed some consumers believe the Mini is an inferior product compared to the full-size iPad. Perhaps that's because of the lack of a Retina display, though Apple is rumored to be working on a Retina-enhanced Mini.

Customers seem to have shrugged such concerns off for the moment. Apple sold 3 million iPads the first weekend that the Mini was available. The company, however, didn't break Mini sales out of that figure.
