The long-awaited Apple Watch, officially announced Tuesday with a release date set for "early 2015," isn't the only smartwatch out there.
It's not even the second or third smartwatch.
From the Pebble to the original Galaxy Gear to the various Android Wear devices, smartwatches are already pretty popular amongst consumer electronics makers.
So how does the Apple Watch stack up to the competition? To find out we pitted the Apple Watch against the Gear 2, the Moto 360 and the Pebble Steel.
First, a word of warning: We don't know all of the specs for the Apple Watch. In fact, we know very little about what is inside the device itself. That left us with just being able to compare size, sensor technology and a few other tidbits.
It's also worth pointing out that specs don't necessarily mean a lot when it comes to a smartwatch. After all, the Pebble Steel might not have the color touch screen of a Gear 2, Moto 360 or Apple Watch, but it is readable in sunlight and its battery lasts a week.
For a smartwatch, the better comparison is what you can do with your watch.
We're still early in the Apple Watch's story, but already it looks like it will do a lot of what other smarwatches do. That is, provide notifications, offer up directions and track your steps or fitness moves.
The big thing the Apple Watch has going for it -- aside from its tight Apple integration -- is the ability to send back messages to other users using taps, emojis, pre-formatted replies or even your voice.
It's also cool that you can use the Apple Watch as a keycard for your hotel room.
