The retail mainstreaming of the Apple Watch is now pretty much complete, as Walmart has begun selling the heavily marketed iPhone companion.

This follows earlier recent retail moves from Apple this year, which saw the company place the smartwatch in similarly discount-centric outlets like Target in October and Best Buy back in August.

The addition of Apple products to the discount retailer is no surprise given the iPhone's presence at Walmart in the past. But, like Target before it, the decision to bring the Apple Watch to such a chain seems to defy the carefully curated image Apple has fostered around the device since its debut.

At present, the only versions available on Walmart's online store are the aluminum Apple Watch Sport in Space Gray with a black band and Silver with a white band. No discounts are offered, with both being sold at the usual $349 (38mm) and $399 (42mm) price points.

However, in the days leading up to Christmas, it would be a good idea to keep an eye on Walmart's pricing to see if the retailer mirrors Best Buy's discount, which recently brought the Apple Watch down to $249.

But unlike Best Buy and Target, which both carry the aluminum Apple Watch Sport and stainless steel Apple Watch, Walmart only carries the cheapest version of the smartwatch (Apple Watch Sport), for now.

It should also be noted that you'll still have to visit the official Apple Store, brick-and-mortar and online, if you want to lay your hands on the gold versions of the Apple Watch.
