Arcade Fire, fresh off expressing strong support for the same-sex marriage movement at the Coachella music festival in April, has unleashed a new music video featuring The Amazing Spider-Man 2 actor Andrew Garfield dressed as a woman.

"We Exist" is song about a son's attempt at revealing he's gay to his father, and the Grammy-winning rock band has paired those lyrics with a powerful video in which Garfield shaves his head, puts on female clothing and shows off the new look in public.

Though disapproving bar patrons beat Garfield's character midway through the clip, the video quickly transitions into a solo dance party and then a stage show for Garfield.

The production is a departure from Arcade Fire's usual approach for music videos. Three of the band's previous videos were interactive spectacles.

2010's "We Used to Wait" took your childhood home address and personalized the experience with Google Maps, while 2011's "Sprawl II" again tasked viewers to direct by using a webcam or mouse. Meanwhile, 2013's "Reflektor" let viewers use a computer mouse, phone or tablet to toy with the video's graphics or incorporate their faces into it.
