Gone are the days of easily outdated catalogue raisonnés and unreachable crafts as Art.sy, a powerful online platform, will soon unravel the biggest collection of artworks from all over the world, giving people the opportunity to transcend distance barriers to locate and appreciate art.

Powered by The Art Genome Project, an ongoing study of the characteristics that distinguish and connect works of art, Art.sy will serve as a real-time catalog of every known artist, organization, exhibition, performance. The engine also evaluates and curates artworks across over 800 characteristics or “genes,” such as art-historical movements, subject matter, and formal qualities, among many others, to provide a holistic searching experience for the viewer.

Currently in private beta phase, Art.sy is a brainchild of Carter Cleveland, a Computer Science Engineer from Princeton University, and Sebastian Cwilich, a former executive at Christie’s Auction House and Haunch of Venison Gallery. John Elderfield, Chief Curator Emeritus of Painting and Sculpture at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, currently serves as Art.sy’s Senior Advisor.
