Associated Content Gets Serious About Plagiarism; Signs Deal with Attributor

Last month we exposed some fairly blatant plagiarism by an Associated Content author, who had ripped dozens of stories from Mashable and other sources, and posted them to the site in hopes of making money. The President of the company replied quickly to the issue, vowing that Associated Content would do more to prevent plagiarism, but at the time, I concluded “we’ll have to wait and see.”

Today I’m glad to report that the company has teamed up with Attributor in order to crack down on plagiarism. Attributor takes a proactive approach to stopping plagiarism, as Eric Eldon of VentureBeat describes:

“In order to discover copyrighted material on the web, Redwood City, Calif.-based Attributor indexes more than 15 billion pages, matching the content on those pages with more than a trillion “fingerprints” such as paragraphs and metadata about images and video.”

Additionally, Associated Content will use Attributor’s technology to try and make sure that their own content isn’t being plagiarized around the Web.
