AT&T Embraces Its Inner Hulu

AT&T has just launched a new entertainment portal, aptly named AT&T Entertainment. As Entertainment Weekly points out, the site looks suspiciously similar to Hulu, though in practice it is much more akin to Comcast's Fancast or AOL's new SlashControl.

The site offers up content from Hulu, NBC, CBS, Fox, ABC, TV.com, The CW, MTV and a slew of other networks and studios. The selection is pretty good, and the interface is far better than that of say CBS.com or even TV.com. Yes, you can access all of this content on other sites, but the advantage is having access to everything in one place.

AT&T Entertainment also features movies -- though the best are age-restricted meaning you need an account to watch them. The best films also seem to be served directly from Hulu, which to me sort of says, well, then just go to Hulu.

Still, as a portal, I can't fault AT&T for trying. The interface and layout, though Hulu-esque (but hardly to TV.com levels of website plagiarism), is attractive and relatively free of annoyances. They could add Facebook Connect or Sign-in With Twitter features to make the pain of signing up for yet another account that much less repugnant, but saving that, it's not a bad effort.
