On Monday, Australia's Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull announced he had removed the titles of "knights" and "dames" from the Order of Australia, a formal award system that honours those who provide a great service to Australia.

The two archaic titles were only brought back last year in a controversial move by former prime minister Tony Abbott. In a decision that made many question Abbott's leadership, the first knighthood was awarded to Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh -- a man who has only been to Australia a handful of times.

So while we give our best royal wave goodbye to any future knights and comely dames, it's about time we started installing some proper titles to reward those Aussies doing us proud. Call it, the "Order of Straya."

1. True Blue Legends (TBL)

Awarded to:

Those who won't let the barbecue leave their sight until the snags are cooked to perfection.

Champions on the sporting field who, on occasion, are known to "go off like a bag of cats."

Every single paramedic nationwide, for picking us up when we're down.

Dr. Karl Kruszelnicki, everyone's favourite science dad and loud shirt wearer.

This cat.

2. Top Blokes and Sheilas (TB, TS)

Awarded to:

Those who are always down for a McDonald's run at 3 a.m.

Former Australian Idol contestants. Every single one.

Kebab shop owners.

The club photographer who didn't upload the picture of you passed out in the smoking area to Facebook.

3. Dinkum Cobbers (DC)

Awarded to:

Your friendly, neighbourhood garbo (garbageman, for those unfamiliar).

International actors who fail dismally at replicating the Australian accent, because good on ya for having a go.

The NT News.

4. Bloody Dills (BD)

A special decoration for the ferals and FIGJAMs (someone who thinks a lot of themselves), who remind us that losing is sometimes just as important as winning.

Awarded to:

Todd Carney, the professional rugby league player who got snapped doing something he definitely shouldn't have done.

Former model Sarah Murdoch, who during her time as host of Australia's Next Top Model, announced the wrong winner live on air during the show's finale.

Agnieszka Radwanska, a Polish tennis player who became an honorary Aussie and BD after her racquet went flying off the handle at the 2011 Australian Open.

While titles for the Order of Australia can be bestowed upon citizens by the governors of each state, Mashable Australia asks that recipients of the Order of Straya only be formally decorated by proper Strayan royalty: television stars, Kath and Kim.
