Listen up, darlings, put down the glass of Prosecco and steady yourself for two seconds: Australia will once again compete in the greatest competition on Earth, the Eurovision song contest in 2016.

Australian broadcaster SBS, who own the rights to showing Eurovision in Australia, announced the news via Twitter on Tuesday. Co-hosts Julia Zemiro and Sam Pang seem just as excited as we are.

Huge news! Australia will compete in #Eurovision in 2016! @julia_zemiro @MrSamPang @SBSEurovision pic.twitter.com/d7H8XjF6qE— SBS Australia (@SBS) November 17, 2015

Eurovision, for those unfortunate enough to be uninclined, is an annual song contest where countries from all over Europe sing their hearts out in a spectacle full of glitter, bravado, and anti-booing technology that muffles the raucous sounds of dissenters.

Australia made its debut in the Eurovision song contest last year, with the first ever winner of Australian Idol, Guy Sebastian, competing for the country. Australia placed 5th overall, and undoubtedly they'll be aiming higher next time.

If you're not already skipping naked in the street after hearing the news, then take a look at some Twitter users who might be.

In order to make Australia permanently eligible for #Eurovision I hear we're being pulled via tugboat to Europe by @SBS.— Jonathan Brown (JB) (@JB_AU) November 17, 2015

There are no reports of anyone being nominated to represent Australia in the competition yet, but it should be known that whoever ends up competing has the hopes and dreams of an entire nation resting on their shoulders. Godspeed.
