As the 2015 holiday season approaches, it's officially time to deck the halls. Rather than sprigs of holly or plastic snowmen, this year consider making it a very Aussie Christmas.

Seasonal differences mean that Australians celebrate the occasion at the beach rather than in the snow -- an excuse to wear ugly rashies and sunscreen instead of knitted sweaters.

If you're Australian or just a fan of Down Under, here's a list of ornaments, decorations and cute knick-knacks that will give your Christmas that certain Australian "je ne sais quoi."

1. Wreaths, Aussie-style

These eucalyptus and sea shell wreaths aren't made in Australia, but they definitely capture what Christmas in summer is all about.

Made by WreathsbyBobette, a store on Etsy, they're also quite pricey. Unless you're willing to drop some coin for cute decorations, perhaps take the initiative and make your own using nearby eucalyptus leaves and whatever you can find during a trip to Bondi Beach.

2. Handcrafted tree decorations by Aboriginal artists

Pay tribute to the indigenous people of Australia and support local artists by purchasing something to hang off your tree from Better World Arts. Made with love and recycled materials, these ornaments could be the finishing touch your home needs.

3. Lee Lin Chin baubles

If you're into DIY, then consider enshrining the hallowed Twitter teachings of Australia's "premiere bad bitch," SBS television newsreader Lee Lin Chin, on baubles. "As a single woman people ask me if I ever get lonely. Sometimes I do, but thankfully I'm on TV so I can pretty much pick up any man I want," is one good example.

Simply hop over to her Twitter page, print a few, cut them out and glue them onto a collection of Kmart Christmas ornaments.

4. Thread some corks through your Santa hat

Mosquitos and flies have a grudge against all human life during Australian Christmas, so it's good to be prepared. Just throw a Santa hat on top of an existing cork hat for an optimal mix of fashion and practicality.

5. Christmas albums from reality television stars

Christmas albums from Australian Idol contestants are a vital part of the country's music narrative.

This is Christmas by season two runner-up Anthony Callea, and Amazing Grace: Songs for Christmas from season one contestant Paulini, will surely light up the home and remind you that angels really did bring us here.

6. A Christmas tree made entirely from beer cans

Victoria Bitter or VB is arguably Australia's premiere national drop. It's cheap and puts hairs on your chest, and that's exactly the way we like it.

Youtube user Woofgirl Vb has made an entire Christmas tree -- decked out with lights that may or may not be flashing in time with the beer's advertising jingle -- to do her nation proud. It brings a tear to the eye, it really does.

7. A statue of little baby cheeses

Whether or not you're religious, this decoration, inspired by Australian television show Kath and Kim, needs to be the focal point of every household's Christmas arrangements. Head to the supermarket, stock up on Babybel cheeses and get to work crafting this legendary dairy-inspired set piece.
