Aviary's Photo-Editing App Downloaded 2 Million Times Since Last Weekend

Aviary, the mobile photo-editing firm that inked a deal to provide filters for Twitter last week, announced that there have been 2 million downloads of its app since last weekend.

Avi Muchnick, chief product officer of Aviary, tweeted the stat on Tuesday:

Since updating @aviary's iOS showcase app this weekend we have seen over 2 million installations. bit.ly/VrhiXn— Avi Muchnick (@avimuchnick) December 18, 2012

The 5-year-old Aviary announced it was providing Twitter with photo filters last week. The joint venture came after Instagram pulled support for Twitter cards early in the month. However, Muchnick told Mashable last week that the timing was coincidental since Aviary had been working with Twitter for months.

Aviary has 25 million active monthly users, and partners with 2,500 applications such as Flickr, Yahoo Mail, Imgur, Twitpic, Shopify, RockMelt and MailChimp.

The 2 million figure, which comes after an update to the app, suggests that consumers are looking for alternatives to Instagram. That company, now a unit of Facebook, angered many users with an update to its Terms of Service this week that will allow pics sent via Instagram to be used in ads after Jan. 16.
