Aziz Ansari announced that he's in India late last night, with a series of typically sardonic Instagram photos. The Master of None star posted a series of photos from Trivandrum, to his 1.1 million followers on Instagram, the capital of the southern Indian state of Kerala.

These weren't your conventional picture postcard images. Ansari has been wandering the bylanes of the city, and also found time to admire posters for a local body-building championship and a tea vendor's pouring technique.

His sudden announcement didn't escape the radar of fans in India, who were busy speculating about his itinerary and offering to show him around. Many were wondering whether Ansari was scouting for locations for the second season of Master of None, or simply returning to his roots after the end of a successful first season.

Ansari has most famously explored his Indian origins in the episode "Parents", which examines his relationship with his immigrant parents and has several flashbacks of his father's early life in India.

Only one problem with @azizansari being in India, and it's him not being in Delhi. Or Goa, for that matter.— Ambika Muttoo (@MissMuttoo) December 22, 2015
