Aziz Ansari's upcoming Netflix show may not fill the Parks and Recreation-sized hole in your heart -- but if you're a fan of melancholy, New York City-based comedies designed around a central star's unique persona, a la Louie or Girls, Master of None might be just the ticket.

The upcoming show stars Aziz as Dev, a 30-something actor struggling to navigate life in New York -- being racially profiled at auditions, trying to relate to his immigrant father (played by Ansari's actual dad, Shoukath), waffling between wanting to settle down and wanting to keep his options open. The trailer puts a particular emphasis on his relationship with Rachel (SNL alum Noël Wells), who could be Dev's person -- or not.

Aziz is Master's writer and director, as well as its star; he created the show with Alan Yang.

Master of None is based partially on Ansari's standup and his book Modern Romance, which was released earlier this year. The 10-episode series debuts on Netflix Nov. 6.
