Netflix is plunging further into original comedy with a yet-to-be-titled series from Aziz Ansari, Mashable has learned.
What is it about, exactly? That part is still murky, although the project has been gestating for several months -- so here's guessing they have a pretty good idea.
Here's what we know: The show will be filmed in New York, with Parks and Recreation co-creator Michael Schur and Alan Yang onboard as an executive producer with Dave Becky and David Milner.
Co-stars will include Jon Benjamin, Lena Waithe, Eric Wareheim, Noel Wells and Kelvin Yu -- not a collection of stars by any means, but definitely a collection of friends of Ansari's, whose life the show will be largely based upon.
Directing at least a few of the episodes will be James Ponsoldt, helmer of Sundance Film Festival darlings The Spectacular Now and The End of the Tour, as well as one-off episodes of TV series Shameless and Parenthood.
The rap on the affable, easygoing and infinitely clever Ponsoldt is that he makes the absolute most of whatever's in front of him, which is why he's been an in-demand director ever since Smashed, which premiered at Sundance in 2012.
Ansari's show rolls out with 10 half-hour episodes, premiere date to be determined.
It's hardly Ansari's first project with Netflix, which carried the comedian's comedy special Buried Alive, a composite of his performances in several venues -- the followup to previous comedy specials Intimate Moments for a Sensual Evening and Dangerously Delirious.
