Swiss photographer Daisy Gilardini, who spends her days photographing in British Columbia, Canada, captured an adorable ride-sharing moment between a mother polar bear and her cubs.
While out filming polar bears last February at Wapusk National Park in Manitoba, as they exited their den after a winter's nap, Gilardini snapped a few shots of a baby cub hitching a ride on its mother's bum, because sometimes you just can't pass up a free ride.

In an email to Mashable, Gilardini explains that she spent 13 days filming the bears in the field, and one day the mama bear, "rushed downhill in deep snow when one of the two cubs decided it was much more convenient to hitch a ride on mama’s butt."
"She was extremely calm when our vehicle reached the location and we could photographer her and the cubs for a few hours before she suddenly decided it was time to leave," Gilardini explained.
Gilardini also noted that this was "extremely funny and totally unexpected behavior" for a family of polar bears.
The shots were captured just as the bears were starting to come out of hibernation in late February and early March 2015. During this time, seals are also giving birth on pack ice, which happens can be an easy target for hungry mothers with new bear cubs to feed.
