The sweet story of that Elsa cake fail, according to the baker

Icing Smiles, a volunteer organization that creates custom cakes for families with critically ill children, has responded to the online hoopla that ensued when one of its volunteers made a sweet -- albeit a little scary -- attempt at a cake in the likeness of Elsa from Disney's Frozen.

The baker from Maryland-based Icing Smiles was using a template to emulate a design from McGreevey Cakes, a company that provides recipes and free baking tutorials.

"Unless you have been in a cave," read a post on the Icing Smiles Facebook page that first went up on Monday and was reposted on Tuesday morning. "You know that one of our cakes was compared against the insanely talented work of McGreevy cakes. It has gone viral and broke my heart."

//

(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk'));

Please note that this has been re-posted out of respect for a request from the family. We hate to lose momentum but it...

The volunteer who baked the Elsa cake retained a sense of humor throughout the ordeal, though.

"Her Facebook page was loaded with comments to which she graciously replied with humor and self-deprecation," Icing Smiles' Facebook post continued. "She even commented that she knew it wasn't her best work and that maybe Elsa was getting back from rehab."

The woman who initially created the treat for McGreevey Cakes posted a sweet response:

//

(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk'));

// ]]>

I'm being asked by... everyone, what I think about the recent posts/articles about my Elsa cake and another baker's Elsa...

And the adorable patient who received the cake didn't seem to mind, either.

//

(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk'));
