Barbie's been on her toes for more than 50 years. Fifty-six to be precise. That's a high accumulation of bunions, arch problems and mangled toenails.
Whether in stilettos, boots or just hanging out at home, the fashion icon has rarely been seen with her signature heels.

That is, until now. Mattel just launched its first Barbie Fashionista line this week, designed to represent the modern day stylish girl, one who is obsessed with street style seen everywhere from blogs to Instagram. That means being comfortable and flexing her feet, wearing other kinds of fashionable shoes from flats to sneakers.

Most important, the new line includes a diverse array of dolls. In a step in the right direction, Mattel will be releasing a wide variety of models in different shapes and sizes, with 23 dolls featuring 14 different facial sculpts, eight skin tones, 18 eye colors and 23 hair colors.
