Now Barbie looks more relatable than ever

On Monday Barbie posted her first #MakeUnderMonday images on her social media accounts.

The pictures show the iconic doll in a completely new light, modeling relatable, real life situations complete with a dirty face and unkempt hair.

Since 1959 the doll has represented the "perfect" cookie cutter life. She has always managed to land the best jobs, and effortlessly jump from one great adventure to the next with her model-esque boyfriend Ken by her side — all without shifting a hair out of place.

It's been said that if the doll's proportions were transferred to a real woman she would be 5'9" with an 18" waist, 33" hips and a size three shoe. Not the most realistic or universal.

But Mattel is making efforts to prove that Barbie's make-believe life isn't always glitz, glamour and stereotypical perfection.

The #MakeUnderMonday campaign, which will be ongoing throughout 2016, is inspired by real playtime situations that Barbie fans create with their own dolls. Most kids don't keep Barbie in a box; they take her in the grass, cut her hair and give her baths.

Barbie spokesperson Michelle Chidoni told Mashable, "We want girls and parents to see Barbie in her natural state because it reinforces the possibilities that Barbie enables and shows how she stimulates storytelling and imagination."

The brand plans to release more diverse versions of the doll, including various hair colors and skin tones.

Barbie representatives hope fans will interact with the campaign by uploading their own imaginative scenarios and images. Select images will be reposted by Barbie's accounts and could inspire future #MakeUnderMonday posts.
