On Thursday, Mattel announced Barbie was finally receiving a momentous makeover.
The iconic, blonde doll will now be available in four body types, seven skin tones, 18 eye colors and 18 hairstyles, in hopes of being more reflective of the world the doll exists in.

But regardless of the company's efforts to progress, their announcement evoked just as much criticism as it did praise with some hoping the doll would be even more inclusive of races, body types, sexualities and professions -- and others wondering what this would mean for Ken.

Growing up playing with #Barbie I didn't notice/care she didn't look like me. And no one told me. I was just playing dress up with a doll. — A'rielle (@arielleluper) January 28, 2016
