An explosive new story trailer for Battlefield 4 features high-stakes action and intense music, but the moment no one will forget comes when a soldier punches a dog.
The trailer details the perilous lives of troops on the USS Valkyrie, who are trying to survive after the destruction of a Navy's Pacific Command hub. The trailer alludes to strong personal conflicts as the crew fights for their lives.
The struggle reaches fever pitch near the end of the trailer, where you see the brief flash of canine combat.
I bet the dog won't piss on the carpet again. "@Polygon: Battlefield 4 story trailer punches a dog right in the face http://t.co/nSpCkNbmQW"— TOYB0XX (@TOYB0XX) October 22, 2013
Of course, many speculated that the attack on the dog was a jab at rival military shooter Call of Duty. The newest addition to the franchise, Call of Duty: Ghosts, features a motion-captured German shepherd who can assist the squad and can be controlled by the player.
Part of me wonders if the punching of the dog in the Battlefield 4 trailer was a subliminal shot at Call of Duty: Ghosts...— Douglas Veney (@WhoIsDo) October 22, 2013
So...is Battlefield 4 taking a "jab" at Call of Duty: Ghosts by PUNCHING A DOG in the trailer? :( #poorpuppy— Nicholas Puleo (@NickPuleo) October 22, 2013
Battlefield 4 is out Oct. 29 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 4 and PC. It will be available for the next-generation Xbox One and PlayStation 4 when they launch on Nov. 22 and Nov. 15, respectively.
