It is widely agreed that the true breakout star of Star Wars: The Force Awakens is the tiny ball robot, BB-8. His loyalty, sense of humor and just general cute circle-ness is one of the best parts of Episode VII.
There has been much discussion about how BB-8 works, and Disney has been relatively tight-lipped about the internal technology that powers the little guy. There's even an entire, elaborate website dedicated to figuring out what BB-8 would look like if you cracked it open. Finally, though, we can say that the case is closed.
It turns out that BB-8 isn't a robot at all -- it's a cat in a ball.
This, at least, is what the above picture uploaded to Imgur would have you believe.
Our only issue with this nearly airtight theory is that a cat BB-8 would have simply clawed its way out of the ball and taken a nap in the Jakku sun for the duration of the film.
