In a blog post published today, BBC Sport's head of product Cait O’Riordan heralded London 2012 as "the multi-platform Games" and the "first truly digital Olympics."
O’Riordan revealed BBC's website and apps received 9.2 million browser visits from mobiles, with an additional 2.3 million browser views coming from tablets.
Mobiles and tablets accounted for 12 million video requests during the Olympics and while mobile viewing remained consistent throughout the day, BBC data showed that tablet usage peaked at 9 p.m. BBC said that it received more than 106 million requests for Olympic video content across all platforms.
The BBC was lauded for its constant coverage of the Olympic Games, and won praise from viewers for its insightful commentary and coverage of all 26 sports.
This was in contrast to the public reception reserved for U.S. broadcaster NBC, which was criticized for delayed tape recordings.
