LONDON -- A local BBC radio station invited an elderly man in for a cup of coffee after he rang them up to tell them he was feeling lonely.

BBC Radio Solent host Alex Dyke spoke to Bill, a 95-year-old listener who was missing his wife after she'd gone into a nursing home, and invited him in to have coffee with them one morning.

(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk'));Bill phoned BBC Radio Solent. "Bill phoned BBC Radio Solent," reads BBC Radio Solent's Facebook post. "He was upset, lonely and missing his wife. Alex decided to invite him in. We sent a cab to pick him up."

Bill, who lives in Southampton, got married to his wife last year.

"We knew each other for 30 odd years and she needed a carer and I took over the role of carer," he explains in the video. "Then it became so involved we decided we'd get married.

"She fell over and hurt herself and went into hospital and she had to go into a nursing home, and I go down and I visit her every day.

"You've got no idea how sorry I am."

When Bill came into the show, Dyke greeted him with a hug.

"He called up to say he was lonely and he missed [his wife]," broadcast assistant Chris Hitchings told BuzzFeed. "I don't think he had anyone else to talk to.

"He's such a nice guy and was lovely."
