Bebo has announced a partnership with Audible Magic to help the popular social network identify and remove unauthorized copyrighted content on its site. According to Bebo founder & CEO Michael Birch, the partnership will “ensure that artists and the labels that represent them are the only ones who decide which songs they give away for free and which not."

With more than 500,000 bands on Bebo and partnerships in place with iTunes (previous coverage here) and 7digital to help artists sell their music, preventing unauthorized downloads is an important part of Bebo’s business model. Audible Magic’s technology utilizes a database of audio and video content to create a “digital fingerprint” for artist’s work.
