Benedict Cumberbatch joins the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2016 when Doctor Strange debuts on Nov. 4. Your first look at him in costume is here, compliments of the latest Entertainment Weekly cover.

It's not a full-body shot, but you do get a clear glimpse of the Doctor's distinctive Eye of Agamotto amulet. Agamotto is one of the three mystical beings that imbue the Sorcerer Supreme with his magical powers.

Little is known of Marvel's big screen plans for Doctor Strange. The brief synopsis that's been released suggests an origin story in which famed neurosurgeon Stephen Strange ruins his career after an unfortunate auto accident. The magic stuff comes into play when Strange encounters an ancient being while searching for a way to heal himself.

The EW cover story will clear up some of the questions about the movie, including the identities of co-stars Rachel McAdams and Mads Mikkelson. Production has been underway since November and director Scott Derrickson is expected to wrap in March 2016.

The most promising hint so far of what to expect comes from Cumberbatch himself. As he told EW: "There's going to be crazy shit going on."
