Some call them "gifs" while others call them "jifs," but these -- we can all agree -- should be called art.

Berlin-based illustrator Daryl Alexsy found inspiration in architecture and origami to create minimalist GIFs to explore the world around her. She challenges herself to create a new animation every day, illustrating everything from imagined alien abductions to her favorite buildings in Berlin.

"It's about figuring out how to break down a square into something completely new without losing any part of that square," Alexsy told Mashable. "I've always been drawn to architecture because of how systematically you can break down a building by perspective, by the lines of the windows or the gutters, and reconstruct it again as a drawing. The same idea applies to the origami animations I've been making."

The results are these entrancing GIFs that put a whimsical twist on the world around us.
