As long as the App Store has been around, there have been developers who have pushed the boundaries of what's possible on the iPhone. And utility apps -- the iPhone equivalent of tools on a Swiss Army Knife -- have, in many cases, been leading the charge.

As with the rest of the apps on the list, we evaluated utility apps based on their design, cultural impact and how they resonated with users.
