Warning: Major spoilers ahead...
The promos leading up to the season 2 finale of BBC America's Orphan Black had promised some bold moves. But even we didn't see all of them coming.
Going into the episode, we knew Sarah would be surrendering to the Dyad Institute, and with young Kira in their hands, she would be willing to go along with whatever they asked of her in order to keep her daughter safe. What we didn't expect was for all of that to happen in the first five minutes of the episode, leaving time for more than a half dozen other shocking moments.

Horrifying: Sarah’s TMI interrogation
Sarah's aforementioned surrender to Dyad was even more terrifying than we anticipated. After turning herself in, she was bombarded by a slew of personal and invasive questions -- everything from what age she had sex (14 to 15) to whether she'd ever had an abortion (yes). The latter question made Sarah start to tear up, and seeing the usually fearless clone leader break down was almost too much to bear.
Horrifying: Ethan killing himself with poison tea
Convinced that Rachel would stop at nothing to get him to give her the codes to make more clones, Ethan decided to take matters into his own hands -- and kill himself by poisoning his own tea. “I’m afraid you don’t deserve me anymore,” he told Rachel, as his body was wracked by convulsions. Rachel seemed pretty heartbroken by the move -- he is her dad, after all -- but she brought it upon herself. Also, she's evil.
Delightful: Cal and Paul's first meeting
The first meeting between the baby daddy and the former lover was drenched in awkward, but the tension was thankfully relieved by Mrs. S, who delivered one of the best lines of the night: "I don't know how she does it."
Horrifying and delightful: The entire operating-room scene
The mere mention of a procedure called an "oophorectomy" can put the heebie-jeebies in the most steel-nerved human being on the planet. But add in the fact that Sarah was about to have an ovary removed against her will, and that took this scene to a level 1 human-rights violation. The good news for Sarah -- although, she didn't know it while she was being strapped to a gurney -- was that Cosima and co. had arranged for a jail break. They modified a fire extinguisher in the room to act as a dart gun of sorts when the lever was squeezed, and they communicated the plan to Sarah via a drawing that Kira gave to Rachel for her mom. When Sarah decoded the message, she called to Rachel, who had just dumped all of Kira's Cosima-saving bone marrow on the floor, and fired at just the right moment. Rachel got a pencil in the eye -- and if that's not delightful, what is?
Horrifying: Cosima's declining heath
After Rachel shattered the vials of bone marrow, Cosima's future remained uncertain. When Cal questioned Sarah about it, she, too, seemed concerned and somewhat reluctant to be overly hopeful. This is not good, especially since she now knows that the codes are all hidden in the Island of Dr. Moreau book that Kira has. Step away from the white light, Cosima.
Delightful: “I like your hairs.”
Helena has had a fantastic season. Yes, she's still a perpetually hungry psychopath. But that's what makes her so endearing. Also, moments like the one, pictured below, highlight the naive and innocent sides of her deranged mind just enough to warm our hearts.

Horrifying: The army captures Helena
Not much info is known about where she's going or what they're going to do with her. But we do know that Mrs. S helped them get her. In talking to Paul, she said Sarah will "never forgive her." And neither will we, Mrs. S.
Delightful: The reveal of a new (young) clone
Near the end of the episode, Sarah went to Marian's house because she'd promised her a super-sized helping of truth. And upon arriving, Sarah immediately notices a familiar person: a little girl who looks just like Rachel did in the home movies viewers have been seeing all season. Yes, it's a young clone. Marian calls the little girl her daughter, and the little girl -- who obviously knows more about the truth than Sarah ever did at that age -- introduces herself to her "big sister." But that's not the only reveal Marian makes...

Horrifying and delightful: MALE CLONES
That entirely disturbing, smiling face, below, is a product of Project Castor -- a male clone project. Yes, there are male clones. And, no, they're not all hot Pauls. But Mark, the religious guy who we met at the beginning of the season who has since changed his ways, is one of them. And this is going to be interesting...
