The iPad had its fifth birthday last month. Over the years, the device has evolved quite a bit and has inspired competition from Microsoft (the Surface Pro 3) and Dell (the Venue 7 8000).
But as smartphone screens grow in size, the question persists: Is a tablet even necessary?
