Before the Super Bowl, Apple Martin told her dad that the worst-case scenario for the performance would be him becoming a meme -- which didn't turn out to be true. Instead, everyone just felt sorry for Chris Martin.

Beyoncé stole the show and, as Martin revealed in a new Rolling Stone profile, she's the coach he desperately needs.

Martin said he wrote a song called "Hook Up" for Beyoncé, which she politely declined, telling him, "I really like you -– but this is awful."

This puts Queen Bey in the company of David Bowie, who also kindly turned Martin down once.

But Martin has dealt with plenty of public ridicule in the past, thanks to the first big wave of Coldplay backlash.

"I had a couple of years in the mid-2000s where it was really confusing to me," he said. "I was like, 'Why is our band sometimes a punch line?'"

Martin also reveals that since consciously uncoupling from Gwyneth Paltrow, he looks to the Rocky films for diet inspiration.
