Today, bizarrely, that story made it into the New York Times, leading us to conclude that Cosby is either old-media savvy, too, or has the best PR firm known to man. The Times writes:

All of this online promotion was a bit much for a new-media habitué like Pete Cashmore, who runs the Mashable Web site and posted last week that “Bill’s ‘people’ have determined that Cosby needs to get involved with this glitzy new ‘social media marketing’ thing the kids are all doing these days.”

Mr. Cashmore also said he would wear a Cosby-style sweater on his Facebook photo if Mr. Cosby responded directly to his post using 12seconds. About 12 hours later, Mr. Cosby responded in a grainy video that runs just under 12 seconds, “Hey Pete, thank you very, very much. And you look great in my sweatshirt.” So far, Mr. Cashmore’s Facebook photo has not been updated.

For the record: I did (unwillingly) honor the wager and update the photo. But Cosby, it seems, always gets the last laugh.
