New York City's New Mayor Shovels His Own Sidewalk

After a snowstorm trampled all five boroughs of New York City on Thursday night, Mayor Bill de Blasio wasn't sitting behind a desk in fuzzy socks. He was shoveling his own sidewalk in front of his residence in Brooklyn.

Naturally, the mayor's office made sure we all knew about it, but PR stunt or not, you "never saw this on E. 79th folks," as NY1 reporter Josh Robin puts it. De Blasio, who was inaugurated on Jan. 1, took over the mayorship from billionaire businessman Michael Bloomberg.

As the temperatures hover in the low teens, New York City and the surrounding areas are under a winter storm warning until 1 p.m. ET Friday. Some areas in the city received up to 6.5 inches of snow overnight, and high winds continue to threaten cleanup efforts.
