Bill Gates Explains Why He Joined Twitter, Publishes Annual Letter

It’s been less than a week since Bill Gates joined Twitter, but the Microsoft founder has already accumulated more than 300,000 followers and used the platform to launch a new site – Gates Notes.

Today, Gates is using his new outlet to promote his second annual letter, which discusses the many philanthropic issues that he's involved in through the Gates Foundation. This chart provides an overview:

He also talked about Twitter and a range of other technology and world issues on Good Morning America. Asked why he joined the microblogging service, Gates said that he likes to get feedback on how his foundation -- which includes much of his personal fortune plus that of Warren Buffett -- is using its resources. In other words, he’s tracking your replies.
