Mint lets you truly take back control of your budget, tracking credit cards, bank accounts, setting budgets and more. LowerMyBills offers recommendations for ways to save on everything from your mortgage or car payment to your credit card bills. BillShrink really does not do much to compete with either one. What BillShrink does is take a one-step-removed look at your credit card bills and wireless phone plans. It then gives you pointers on changes to make to save money or find a better plan. As far as I can see, it doesn't seem to do more than that.

Before this massive financial crisis hit, I would have said that a limited focus was enough. I would have said that while it didn't do enough for me personally, it might do enough for someone else and given the site a thumbs up for a nice, easy to use user interface. Sadly, they chose to launch in the same week that many financial institutions have received bail outs and consumers are truly tightening their belts. This means that any one note financial site with no depth is slated to leave customers wanting more.

In this financial climate, any site presuming to claim that they save a consumer any amount of money better be prepared to go above and beyond. There is no longer any time to fritter away looking for multiple sites to fill in the financial gaps the one site doesn't handle. Customers will be gravitating to Mint and LowerMyBills style sites for more comprehensive solutions to their problems.
