Bitstrips Custom Comics Launching at SXSW

Bitstrips is an upcoming comic strip creator that's made the process of creating a strip pretty darn simple. I've come across a handful of services, like Comic Sketch, that aim to provide you with a simplified comic strip creation tool, but Bitstrips is the easiest and most social I've seen so far. Bitstrips is currently in private beta, and will be launching at SXSW, but I got a chance to play around with it today.

With drag'n'drop capabilities, you can start by creating your own character, or using one that's in the vast Bitstrips library. Any characters created by others can be used by the rest of the community. You can modify things like facial expressions, clothing, panel colors, and of course text. Your completed comic can be shared across the web.

Unlike Zingfu, Bitstrips keeps a very "drawn" tone for its content, and there's no image upload. All the content created on the site is pretty uniform, aside from the way in which each user takes the available content to create a strip.

I like the way Bitstrips has set up its community features. It makes for easy sharing and consumption of the strips themselves. I don't see any subscription options for following users or categories for comic strips, and there's also no search function for the comic strip creation process.
