You’d think that maybe, just maybe, the regular news stories about copyright owners and ISPs cracking down on file sharing might slow peer-to-peer activity, even if only a tiny little bit. Alas, the flow of BitTorrent traffic is ever increasing, with usage rates going up and up. According to data relayed by Ernesto of TorrentFreak, a strong interest in downloads of the uTorrent transfer client on the European continent “more than doubled” its install base in the past year. [img src="http://sale-online.click/wp-content/uploads/2008/04/utorrent.png" caption="" credit="" alt="utorrent"]The uTorrent client, acquired by BitTorrent, Inc in 2006, several months ago overtook Azureus a similarly popular Java-based client, to rank as the most utilized property in the market.

Azureus garnered much attention in the last year for establishing its own legal framework for downloading media via the BitTorrent protocol, which it dubbed Vuze. Of course, as many observers of the peer-to-peer world will know, Vuze’s creators have encountered trouble with ISPs who seem to stifle the company’s video delivery by selectively prohibiting BitTorrent traffic, however legitimate and above-board it may be, from passing through from provider to consumer.

Strangely enough, though uTorrent continues to press forth in Europe, it has evidently failed to gather so much interest in the US. Among a list of some half-dozen or so clients, it sits at the bottom of the pack.
