This exercise bike concept would wash your clothes as you pedal

Not having enough time to exercise is a common excuse -- and the same goes for doing laundry. But a quirky new concept imagines a stationary bike that doubles as a washing machine, giving users the power to work out and clean their clothes at the same time.

BWM, which stands for bike washing machine, was designed by students at the Dalian Nationalities University in China.

"When you ride this bike, the pedaling motion causes the drum of the washing machine to rotate," the students wrote on design site Tuvie. "At the same time, superfluous electricity is generated, which can be used to power the display screen or stored for future use."

Although it seems like a dream for multi-taskers, it's unclear just how long it might take to pedal through a load of laundry -- the small size of the washer indicates you could be riding the BWM for quite awhile before your clothes are ready.

It's unclear when the BWM was first posted to Tuvie, but it recently attracted media attention on design blog MyModernMet. Of course, this is just a design concept and is unlikely to move into production anytime soon, if ever. The designers have not yet responded to a request for comment.

This isn't the first time a part-bike, part-washing machine contraption has surfaced. In fact, designer Barbora Tobolova posted a concept called the BiWa that takes the idea a step further, allowing you to use the bike on the streets. In theory, you could go out for a ride, pick up some groceries and commute to work -- while simultaneously washing your clothes.

"There’s a small opening in the capsule to let dirty water out, so that you can re-fill it with clean water to rinse," the post continues. "It’s a nice eco-friendly urban mobility."

While we're not about to give up old-school trips to the laundromat or buying a washing machine of our own, we can dream about the concept of knocking out two chores with one machine.
