Blind Redditor Creates and Solves Rubik's Cube

Sameer Doshi has always been up for a challenge.

The legally blind 32-year-old engineer was unable to continue playing video games like The Legend of Zelda during his free time. Instead, he listened to novels on MP3 -- but he craved competition.

So Doshi created a modified Rubik’s cube using textured stickers, plastic gems and velcro fabric to guide his fingers over the 3D puzzle.

It took him approximately four months to solve the Rubik’s cube, but he finally did -- and posted his results on Reddit.

"I chose to post on Reddit because it's a community I've known for a very long time. It's a place where I've gotten a lot of help,” Doshi says. “It's the best place to share something like this." He hoped that posting his pictures on the website would also have a positive impact on others.

Since posting the thread, Doshi has received a lot of positive feedback. His original post has more 1,000 comments, and many have sent him personal messages thanking him or sharing their own stories about being blind. For his next challenge, Doshi is running for a seat on the Illinois House of Representatives.

“Blind people can do a lot more than what people think. Blindness doesn’t make you completely dependent on people,” Doshi said to Mashable. “Just because you’re lacking in sight doesn’t mean you don’t have a vision.”
