Bob Costas' eye infection has spread to both eyes, forcing the anchor to cede hosting duties to Matt Lauer.

Costas started his hosting duties for the Winter Olympics last week with a left eye that was clearly suffering from some sort of infection, forcing the anchor to wear glasses. Deadspin reported that it was expected to last only a few days, but by Monday night, it had clearly spread to his right eye, too.

Costas has hosted the primetime Olympics broadcast for NBC since 1988, but acknowledged that he will have to turn to Lauer, host of NBC's The Today Show.

“We’re going to the bullpen and you’re Mariano Rivera,” Costas to Matt Lauer, who will host primetime & late night tonight as Costas rests
