Boeing's much-anticipated 737 MAX is scheduled to take its first flight Friday, between 9 and 10 a.m. PT.

For the unveiling, Boeing is live streaming the event.

The plane is scheduled to take off from Renton Municiple Airport in Washington — where the 737s are made — and make a 90-minute flight to Boeing Field, just south of Seattle.

The 737 MAX is a single-aisle plane that is 20% more fuel efficient than current 737s, because of its split winglet design.

The plane is due to be delivered to Southwest Airlines sometime in 2017.

The 737 MAX is a direct competitor of Airbus' A320neo, which made its first commercial flight on Sunday.
