Giant Boeing Dreamlifter Lands at Wrong Airport

Boeing's Dreamlifter 747 aircraft -- the plane that carries the 787 fuselages around the world -- mistakenly landed at the Jabara Airport (AAO) near Wichita, Kan. Atlas Air Flight 4241, from New York's JFK, was scheduled to land at McConnell Air Force Base.

Boeing and the FAA are investigating what led to the mistake; meanwhile the plane is stuck on the ground because the Jabara airport does not have a long enough runway to allow a safe takeoff. The BBC notes in its side-by-side illustration that Jabara is about 920 meters shy of the required length.

Several media outlets picked up the news shortly after Joseph Graybill, a Wichita State aerospace engineering student, posted a photo of the Dreamlifter to Twitter around midnight local time.
