It's hardly uncommon for multimedia artists to use film as inspiration, but Indian artist Rahul Arya has been taking that to a new level with his Bollywood-inspired sand art.

"100 yrs of Bollywood in 200 sec." recreates iconic images from classic films with overlaying dialogue, including some of the most famous lines in Bollywood history. The 25-year-old Arya has been experimenting with sand art for years, and has always been drawn to it as an artistic medium.

"Sand is like a 'Moment' of life," Arya told Mashable. "Time goes away from our hands in life as in sand art. No matter how beautiful it is, you cannot capture it forever with any amount of money."

Arya is also a longtime Bollywood fan, and wanted to create something that depicted the "difficult yet interesting" journey of Indian cinema over the past century.

"I had to filter out 20-22 classic films out of thousands of brilliant films," Arya said. "I'm happy with the final output."

His favorites? "For me it's Mr. India," he said. "I've grown up watching Mogambo; a classic by Mr. Shekhar Kapoor." The accompanying image and dialogue from the 1987 film appear halfway through Arya's video.
