Police respond to bomb threat at JFK International Airport in New York

UPDATED 2:36 p.m. ET: The FDNY reported that all of its searches on the plane have turned up negative. It tweeted that the incident is now "under control."

New York City police and fire department officials, including a bomb squad, responded to an apparent bomb threat Sunday at John F. Kennedy International Airport, the FDNY confirmed to Mashable

The threat was reportedly made against an incoming American Airlines flight from Barcelona. Reports indicated that an initial search of the plane turned up nothing, with Port Authority police now removing luggage.

The plane was evacuated on the runway, and police escorted passengers away from it.

The source of the threat is currently unclear, but a bomb search is ongoing.

Update: As per @NYCityAlerts all passengers being evacuated now safely from the plane. It was a AA Flight 767. Search for bomb ongoing.— MK reports (@MKreports) November 30, 2014

"There was no activity on our end, but we are standing by and waiting for Port Authority," the New York City Fire Department told Mashable

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
