Bono Embraces 'Inner Nerd' at TED: Big Data Will Solve Extreme Poverty

Bono says virtually eliminating extreme poverty is possible by 2030 in his Feb. 26 TED Talk, which was put online Thursday. In the talk, Bono flips his sunglasses upside down and invites everyone to become "factivists," who advocate for policies using hard facts.

Extreme poverty has been cut in half over the past two decades, from 43% in 1990, to 33% in 2000, down to 21% in 2010. He highlighted the facts that since 2000, 8 million AIDS patients have received retroviral drugs, malaria deaths are down up to 75% in some countries and child mortality for kids under five is down by 2.65 million deaths annually.
