I've just been testing out an early version of a service called Boxxet. The site allows users to create their own pages on topics they're interested in, but this isn't another Squidoo - if anything, it's more like Wink. From the site:

Boxxet (pronounced "box set") brings together the "best of" news, blogs, photos, gear, services and much more on your favorite subjects. For the things you care about (teams, hobbies, interests, schools, towns, etc), Boxxet's unique combination of computer automation and community participation produces the most diverse and complete best-of compilations. Our goal is to bring together relevant information on a subject that will then be ranked and culled by you. The Boxxet system will then learn from your input and apply that to future information.

I'm testing an exceptionally early version, so I'll forgive the clunky interface and lack of usability. Beyond that, Boxxet appears to be a vast, sprawling mashup of ideas - a Digg-like voting system for links, tag clouds everywhere, user profiles, a photo gallery (with a different, 5 star rating system), Google Maps integration and a healthy sprinkling of Adsense. But at its heart, Boxxet appears to be a series of vertical Diggs: if you could set up your own version of Digg on any topic, you'd probably have something like this. And I actually think that's a pretty compelling idea: not profitable, necessarily, but interesting nonetheless. The machine learning is intriguing too - a Digg that Diggs by itself!
