Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt don't really have time to host you for dinner, so this interview about their marriage and family will have to suffice.

In the lead up to By The Sea -- their first film together since 2005's Mr. and Mrs. Smith -- the couple sat for a joint interview with Tom Brokaw for TODAY.

Their conversation focused mainly on Jolie, who wrote, directed and produced By The Sea. She and her husband play a struggling married couple, though she assured Brokaw that the film isn't based on their relationship.

"I'm counting on the audience to know that if it was close to us at all, we could never make this film," she said. "It's because we're actually very, very stable and these aren't our issues."

The conversation also covered Jolie's recent health struggles, including her decisions to opt for a preventative double mastectomy and later, ovary and fallopian tube removal. She wrote about both experiences in essays for the New York Times.

Naturally, your dream partner Brad Pitt was supportive of her decisions.

"There was no vanity to my wife's approach," he said. "It was mature...it was just another one of those things in life that makes you tighter. She was doing it for her kids, she was doing it for her family."

Jolie echoed his sentiments.

"He made it very, very clear to me that what he loved, and what was a woman to him was someone who was smart and capable and cared about her family," she said.

"I knew, through the surgeries, that he was on my side and that this wasn't something where I was gonna feel less of a woman because my husband wasn't gonna let that happen."

Brangelina forever.
