LONDON -- Should we stay in or should we pull out?

Whether the UK should remain part of the European Union is a hot topic this week as Prime Minister David Cameron attempts to negotiate the country's position within the EU ahead of an in/out referendum on membership.

Strong opinions have been voiced on both sides of the debate, but nobody's come up with quite such an odd persuasion technique as pro-"Brexit" group Vote Leave, who want the UK out of the EU.

They've released a batch of promotional condoms encouraging Brits to "pull out" of the EU. "Vote Leave: The safer choice" some read, while others insist: "Vote Leave: It's riskier to stay in." Images of the condoms were posted to Twitter on Thursday by Students for Britain.

They were immediately mocked for a number of reasons. Some pointed out that condoms would make things safer, encouraging the user (or the UK) to stay in, others thought the withdrawal method would be a better metaphor, and many just thought that they'd run a mile from anyone who tried to use them in real life.

These would persuade me to exit...

I'm not shagging anyone who whips out one of these. And not just because I'm in the In camp. https://t.co/ps5ivwVVZl— Helen James (@lettertodaddy) February 18, 2016

And here's me thinking they favoured the withdrawal method. https://t.co/Vc6tNg9vS4— Ian Rennie (@theangelremiel) February 18, 2016

The NHS would like everyone to be aware that the pull-out method does not work as contraception. https://t.co/ZQH4uiwfhI— Finn Darby (@FinnTD) February 18, 2016

Nothing screams "moment killer" quite like whacking out your right wing themed condoms, does it? https://t.co/DfcPZ4muhl— Jamie Ali (@JamieAli_) February 18, 2016

The debate continues.
