"We benefit when we listen," said New York Times media reporter and blogger Brian Stelter on stage at the Mashable Media Summit.

Stelter spoke about his experience as a young reporter at the Times, a company that is symbolic of old media. He argued that one must earn the right to teach and learn the way a company operates before you start making changes. After spending his time learning, Stelter began to incorporate new media concepts in a way that made sense for a publication with such legacy.
