NBC News anchor Brian Williams may misremember how his brush with death in Iraq truly went down, but the Internet will never let him forget.

For years Williams had told the story of how a soldier rescued him after his helicopter was downed by RPG fire during the Iraq War in 2003. Turns out, it was all a lie. Williams finally came clean during Wednesday's broadcast after several soldiers called him out on social media.

"I made a mistake in recalling the events of 12 years ago," Williams said. "I want to apologize ... I said I was traveling in an aircraft that was hit by RPG fire."

But as we all know, once something is on the Internet, it becomes immortal. And in Williams' case, this blunder has become the web's favorite joke. Using #BrianWilliamsMisremembers and #BrianWilliamsMemories, Twitter has come up with some other historical events that the newsman may have also gotten wrong.
