Brie Larson on Sunday won the Golden Globe for best actress in a drama for her performance in Room.

It's Larson first Globes nomination and award. She kicked off her speech by thanking the "incredible bunch of people" in the Hollywood Foreign Press Association -- which got perhaps the biggest unintentional laugh of the night -- and writer Emma Donaghue, who wrote both the novel Room is based upon and the screenplay adaptation.

"I am so incredibly grateful," Larson said. "Thank you to my friends, my family who supported me ... and thank you Alex [Greenwald, her long-time boyfriend], my love. I'm sorry to anyone I forgot. I'll write you a thank-you card."

Larson was up against Saoirse Ronan in Brooklyn, Cate Blanchett in Carol, Rooney Mara in Carol and Alicia Vikander in The Danish Girl.
